All are welcome at God’s Table

Why is the Episcopal Church important to you –the seeker, the one who is searching for a faithful community with whom to worship?
As Episcopalians, we are compelled to encourage open and frank participation in matters of faith and church governance. Episcopalians do not adhere to a strict prescribed doctrine; most of us do not interpret scripture literally. But each of us comes faithfully to the Table carrying our own questions and doubts and knowing that God will be there even when we struggle to find a common ground. Ours is the “via media”, the middle way. Welcoming all, worshiping together, sharing the Bread and Wine – the Body and Blood of Christ - even when it is difficult - because it is God’s table, God’s gift of compassion and mercy, God’s love that draws us there.
St Patrick’s is committed to being a church in the community, serving God and our neighbors faithfully through ministries that include prayer and worship, feeding the hungry, affirming the belovedness of ALL people (including LGBTQ+, peoples of color, economically distraught, and all marginalized people), offering compassionate care, building community with joy, Christian formation for children and adults, and making great music in worship. We realize that everyone has their own story and journey through this world. Our hope as a community of Christ is to support and encourage one another along the journey while providing fellowship and love along the way. Whatever brings you to St. Patrick’s, we are glad you are here and hope that you will find a spiritual home that brings you deeper into relationship with God.
St. Patrick’s is a Eucharistic Community which means we gather weekly to share communion with one another. On the night before Christ died for us, he broke bread with his friends and asked that they remember him through continuing this practice. Each week we as individuals come together to celebrate as a community the new life given us through Christ’s death. In the Eucharistic Service we not only remember all that has been done for us, but in sharing bread and wine we are also strengthened to be the Body of Christ at work in the world.
In May of 2018 The Rev’d Jane Bearden joined us as our pastor. St Patrick’s is delighted to have Mother Jane’s energy, passion, and love of ministry to lead us in worship and formation. Our parish outreach ministry is led by Laureli Latimer and Dn Rick Devenport. Kitty MacCullagh is the head of the Altar Guild. St Patrick’s is a small parish as Episcopal Churches go, but each contributes to the work of building God’s Kingdom in Long Beach.
The people of St. Patrick’s are a welcoming bunch who love to share their enthusiasm for Christ through hospitality. While we are solidly grounded in the Episcopal tradition, we enjoy exploring our faith in an effort to become ever closer to God. If you are looking for a supportive, affirming, and loving Christian community where people are comfortable being themselves, please think about visiting. We would love the opportunity to walk with you on your faith journey.
