Hello Friends
I want to let you know about a "grassroots" campaign we have started to
raise additional funds for our first building. We
are at least 1/2 million dollars short of our goal. We have been SO
incredibly blessed by the generosity of so many people, and I know we
can close this gap. I am convinced that God wants us to
rebuild and soon, and
that we will find the help we need.
To that end I created a group on Facebook called "5000 for 100". The
idea is to find 5000 people / groups / organizations willing to give
$100 or more each to our building fund. We will donate 10% of all money
given
to this fund to local charities - Camp Coast Care and
Interfaith Hospitality Network.
This effort is not intended for the
many of you who have given sacrificially already, but was begun in the
belief that there are 5000 people or groups who can find a way to give
$100 or more and are able to do so. I envision individuals, youth
groups,
Sunday school classes, men's groups, ECWs, you name it, rallying
behind this campaign.
If you are on Facebook or ANYONE in your church is, do a search for
this group and join. Then, pass the group on to all your friends. I am
very excited about the potential of this campaign.
However,
you don't have
to be on Facebook to participate. The group is
for anyone and everyone who can find a way to help us rebuild.
We will soon launch an email effort to let more folks know about the
campaign.
Donations can be sent to the church, P.O. Box 550, Long Beach, MS
39560. Please indicate "5000 for 100" on any checks or donations so we
can track the amount given to this effort and also be able to donate a
tithe from it. And pass the word - this is not restricted to
Episcopalians or our partner parishes.
The Old Testament lesson from the 4th Sunday of Lent from Ezekiel asked
a question that haunts me -
"Can these bones live?"
I am ever more convinced that with your
continued help, indeed these bones can and will live. God bless you
all and thank you for ALL you do - truly you give us hope every day.
In Christ,
David Knight, Rector
